Update to my situation. Seems like the Honda will cost more to fix than it's worth. So, I think it's time I finally buy a scooter, and also time to maybe buy a hot hatch of some sort. Or, anything more roomy and interesting than the S2K. Suggestions?

Silvestro will recommend the FiST. I guarantee it.

I could be asking for a beer recommendation and Silvestro would recommend the FiST.

Budget? Abarths and FiSTs are going for cheap these days.

Go with an early/mid 2000s Yamaha Zuma. they're typically $500 less than a Honda Ruckus, and they're two strokes which makes them awesome and cheap/easy to mod, should you ultimately want to dump more money into the scooter than you paid for it. There's a reason Ruckus owners swap the Zuma motor into the Ruckus chassis but nobody ever swaps a Ruckus motor into a Zuma chassis.

Buy an Abarth and a Honda Ruckus. It's the right thing to do.

You need this.

It is more roomy and interesting than the S2K.

Also an awesome two stroke scooter, but they tend to cost more and usually aren't as abundant on craigslist.

while not technically a scooter, may I also suggest a Derbi GPR50.

I actually have a dealer like less than a 15 minute walk from my apartment haha. They offer great service and warranty stuff. Plus, great sales

Do yourself a favor and buy used. Warranties are nice, but we're not talking about a twin-turbo Mercedes here. Other than maybe a spark plug, battery, and maybe brake pads depending on how you ride (and, in case of a four stroke, oil), a stock scooter should last ~5k before needing anything. And even then you're looking at replacing the belts and possibly the rollers in the CVT. Fix that, and you should be fine until about 10k miles, at which point most two strokes will need to be re-ringed. But most used Zumas can be had for under a grand (and most SR50s for under two grand) with less than 3k miles - which makes sense because most commutes on a scooter are really short - to the store and back, to school and back, etc. Presuming its use at a near top speed of 35 MPH, 3k miles is 85 hours of continual riding, which is really not that much. Plus if you're patient, you can find a senior citizen that bought one to take with him on his RV camping and you can get one with under a thousand miles on it for less than half of the MSRP.

But if you are going to go new, the MSRP of the Honda Grom is about what a SR50 goes for... :)
